Azure Cloud – What is it? How Does it Work?

Nowadays, access to a physical IT infrastructure such as server rooms, is no longer required, thanks to cloud services. One of the developing solutions on the market is Microsoft’s Azure. It provides a broad range of cloud services, various IT solutions such as analytics, storage space and data sharing. Users have the flexibility to select and combine these services to create and expand new applications or operate existing applications in the public cloud environment.

Azure is one of the fastest growing cloud platforms in the world, providing a diverse range of services, easy management of IT solutions and cost optimization. Its growing user base contributes to the increasing availability of online resources.

How does Azure work, and what should you know about it?
Explore this article to find out.

What is Azure Cloud?

The Azure cloud is a platform resembling a massive server room, accessible via the Internet. Users can access various applications and IT resources, such as virtual machines or data warehouses. Microsoft, its provider, maintains numerous modern data centers across the globe.
Key facts about Azure include its launch in 2010, free registration with pay-per-use billing, and support for multiple programming languages such as Java and C#. It’s worth noting that 95% of Fortune 500 companies use the Azure platform, with over 40 data centers around the world, including Europe.
The cloud consists of interconnected servers that perform specific functions, such as storing data, running applications and accessing services, including webmail, social networking and office software. Cloud technology makes it possible to access data and files from any Internet-connected device, anywhere, anytime.
Azure enables entrepreneurs to build their IT infrastructure using external server services, eliminating the need to install various work tools and applications on personal devices.

Why use Azure?

Using traditional application services requires data warehouses and efficient, secure servers, which often results in increased expenses. Cloud computing, particularly Azure, offers a cost-effective solution. Migrating data to Azure ensures access to a wide range of services within server infrastructure and external network resources, overcoming financial limitations.
The Azure cloud means: functionality, simple management of company costs, data security, as well as the ability to configure the IT environment, while taking into account the most important services and functions for a specific enterprise.

Azure Cloud – how does it work? Practical application

Microsoft’s Azure cloud has a variety of practical applications. Primarily, it enables the creation of flexible, customized server environments across diverse platforms. Azure is versatile, supporting the development, testing, and hosting of applications, including web-based ones. It also facilitates data processing and analysis, for instance, through IoT (Internet of Things).

Azure Cloud Services

Azure allows you to manage modern tools and applications without any investment in individual IT infrastructure. The most important features of the cloud are:

  • Mobile services – with this function it is possible to create applications for systems such as Android, Apple iOS or Windows Phone, and extend them with a number of additional features, such as authentication or secure storage of resources on drive.
  • SQL databases – SQL services include the design and enrichment of further application options in external infrastructure and SQL reporting.
  • Websites – this allows you to create websites in the cloud, which significantly improves application reliability.
  • Data backup – allows you not only to create backups, but also to manage them, using the best data security tools.
  • Traffic manager – allows you to manage incoming traffic, regardless of whether the services are handled by a professional data center or other providers.
  • Storage – data warehouse for storing files, spreadsheets and virtual drives.

What Azure cloud services are worth mentioning?

Interestingly, the Azure cloud offers over 200 more or less well-known services, divided into 18 categories. The most popular ones certainly include:

  • Azure Virtual Machines – the service allows you to quickly run virtual machines operating either on Windows or Linux.
  • Azure Batch – a cloud service that allows you to carry out many tasks quickly, for instance, video rendering.
  • Azure Cloud Services – for creating applications in the cloud, which performance is handled by the Azure platform.
  • Azure File Storage – a service that allows you to store files in the cloud. The equivalent of classic Windows network shares.
  • Azure DNS – allows you to host domains in the MS Azure infrastructure.

Physical server rooms are becoming a thing of the past as companies implement modern, more efficient IT solutions, such as Microsoft’s Azure cloud. Azure not only simplifies the creation of customized server and application environments, but also streamlines data storage and management. Ease of use and efficient operation, backed by Azure’s expert administration, makes it an attractive choice for companies seeking resource flexibility and customized IT services.
